Mexico’s vehicle-armor industry has been growing at a 10 percent annual rate for the past 10 years, with the exception of 2009, when sales fell about 20 percent.
AMBA has seven members who control about “half of the armor installation in the country,” the trade association said.
Some 2,000 armored units will be produced by the end of 2010 in Mexico, the trade association said.
“Currently, about 88 percent of the armor goes on SUVs and 12 percent on autos,” AMBA said.
The typical customer for an armored vehicle is a male businessman, but the Mexican government has recently increased its purchases of armored vehicles, AMBA said.
